The Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University is one of the most dynamic professional schools of international affairs in the world. It traces its roots to 1898, when The George Washington University began instruction in international affairs. Offering in-depth analysis of international economic, political, scientific, and cultural issues, the Elliott School trains undergraduate and graduate students in the theory and practice of international affairs.

The multidisciplinary curriculum means that most Elliott School full-time faculty hold joint appointments in GW departments such as anthropology, communications, business, economics, geography, history, political science, public policy, public administration, and public health. Since 1997, the U.S. Department of Education has named GW as a National Resource Center (NRC) in International Studies, one of only 11 in the U.S., and the only one in the Mid-Atlantic region; this award recognizes excellence in foreign language instruction and international studies.
