The Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS) was the first college of GW. Since its founding nearly 180 years ago, CCAS has been the cornerstone of the campus community and is the academic engine of GW. CCAS embraces a wide historical expanse - from President George Washington, who articulated the foundation of democracy, to Professor George Gamow, GW nuclear physicist and originator of the Big Bang Theory.

Today, the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences faculty bring research directly into the classroom to enrich students' learning experiences. A gift from alumni, parents, and friends of Columbian College to the Annual Fund supports our outstanding academic and research programs, including the Dean's Seminars, graduate and faculty research initiatives, and 42 departments. Each student walks our halls, attends lectures, and grows because of the strong liberal arts education Columbian College provides. Please consider a gift to inspire, develop, and benefit the minds of the next generation.
