Why should I make a gift to GW?
Giving is a personal decision. Each of your colleagues who support GW has his or her own answer to this question. In addition to your daily contributions of energy and effort, a financial contribution is a different and important way to demonstrate your investment in GW and its students. The number of reasons for giving is diverse but all reflect a sincere belief in the work being done here at GW. Ultimately, your participation in the Faculty & Staff Campaign is a vote of confidence in the achievements and aspirations of the University and its students. Any gift you make will build upon a tradition of partnership and pride across campus. . . and beyond.

What can I give to?
You have many choices! Donors often choose to make an unrestricted gift to the President’s Fund for Excellence. These gifts are not restricted for a specific purpose and therefore can be directed toward the University’s most pressing needs. Others choose to restrict their gifts to a specific department or program, or give to a library, athletic team, or one of the many scholarships available to GW students.

Historically, donors have given to the D.C. Trachtenberg Scholarship Fund and many other funds around campus. This year, you are welcome and encouraged to make your gift to any area you wish. There is a space at the bottom of the pledge card for you to select the President’s Fund for Excellence, scholarships, or write in a school or department of your choice.

How much should I give?
You determine the size and designation of your gift according to your own charitable interests, your personal willingness to give, and your financial capacity. No gift is too small. It’s your participation in the effort that matters. Donors who contribute $1,000 or more within a fiscal year will be recognized as members of the prestigious Luther Rice Society, the University’s oldest recognition society.

How can I give?
There are many easy ways to make a gift to GW. You can make your gift via:

  • Payroll deduction
  • Check (payable to The George Washington University)
  • Credit/debit card
  • Appreciated securities and bonds
  • Bequests
  • Life insurance

Use this pledge card to make your gift today, or contact the GW Annual Fund with questions about giving: giving@gwu.edu or 202-994-9144.

How does payroll deduction work?
Payroll deduction is one of the fastest and most convenient ways to make your gift. By completing the payroll deduction section on the pledge card, you specify the amount you would like automatically deducted from each paycheck and where your support should be designated. Your gift will be split over 12 or 26 pay periods, depending on how you’re paid, making it very easy to give your gift over time.

Who will know about my gift?
Participation in the campaign is your choice. You will be recognized in the Annual Donor report as a supporter of GW. And, you will be thanked by the University for your support. Also, you will receive a receipt for your gift, but the amount of your gift will remain confidential to others. If you wish to keep your gift entirely anonymous, you can indicate so on the pledge card.

Can I make a gift jointly with my spouse?
Of course. A number of GW employees have spouses who work here as well; or the spouse is an alumnus/a, but not a GW employee. It is your choice whether to make your gift as an individual or as a couple.

In fact, your spouse may work for or be a retiree from a company that matches philanthropic gifts. Hundreds of companies do match gifts made by their employees and employees’ spouses. Check with the human resources department to see if you could double your gift to GW.
